Why you should work under a business name?
I’m sure some of you might be saying to yourselves…“I don’t need a business name. I’m just gonna market myself as John Doe, and the time and money it takes to register and incorporate a business.”
If you’re being one of those, then let me tell you – you’re doing a great disservice to your professional career. As well as missing a huge opportunity to develop a legitimate business.
Sure, the easiest thing would be to work under John Doe and market yourself under your name. but let me ask you – outside your family and friends, how much weight does your name carry?
Are you an influencer within your field? Would anyone automatically recognize who you are when they hear your name? if the answer to either question was a no, then you need to scrap the “using our name” idea.
“But, what about those people who are independent contractors and work under their own name?” you may ask. Well, yes, people like Ted Turner and Donald Trump market themselves as “the business.” But they can do that because they’re industry influencers, and have very strong personal brands.
